Oh, God. So Your Favorite Character is Old as the Sun and as Old as the Moon and Speaks Fluent Tolkien Era Evlish (and possibly several dialects of it) and You Only Speak Languages of The Planet Earth?

Fear not! We’re here to make it as painless & graceful as ever!

A collection of Elvish Speech References for both Role-Players and Fic-er’s. This is Linguistics helpful, plus has links to all the places I, or anyone near me, or within the sound of my reblogs, could gather that is being used, for dictionaries and premade phrases/name creation, etc.

MAIN LINGUISTICS INFORMATION

  • Elf-Dict – Translation from-to for Adûnaic , Black Speech, English Kudhuzl, Nandorin, Noldorin, Quenya, Quendya, Sindarin, Telerin, Westron

QUENYA (aka “High Elvin” from Aman/Valinor; now of scholarly/political pursuit, but not common usage in the Third Age aka when The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings trilogy takes place. Think of this like Latin vs. English.

Also, important, Quenya was forbidden after the kinslaying for a long period of time, and it still carries that stain on it, though it is considered by all more beautiful than Sindarin.)

SINDARIN (aka “The Noble Tongue” or “The Common Tongue,” easiest to learn and most frequently used everywhere in Middle Earth. Also, known by nearly all Númenórean (aka Gondor/Arnor) realms of Men, too.)

Also, if your have more resources, no matter who you are or how you come upon this post, please send me them and I will add them to this as soon as possible, to keep this as current and wide-spread to usage as possible.
